Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION

On Vehicle

1. Disconnect the connector from the Volume Air Flow Meter.

Air Flow Meter Connector Terminal Identification

2. Using an ohmmeter measure the resistance between each terminal as shown:

Between terminals E1 and FC

measuring plate fully closed:    infinity 

Between terminals VC and E2

always:    200 - 400 ohms 

Between terminals THA and E2

at -20°C (-4°F):    10 - 20 k ohms
at 0°C (32°F):    4 - 7 k ohms
at 20°C (68°F):    2 - 3 k ohms
at 40°C (104°F):    0.9 - 1.3 k ohms
at 60°C (104°F):    0.4 - 0.7 k ohms 

3. If not within specifications, replace Volume Air Flow Meter.

Off Vehicle

Air Flow Meter Connector Terminal Identification

1. Using an ohmmeter measure the resistance between each terminal as shown:

Between terminals E1 and FC

measuring plate fully closed:    infinity
measuring plate other than closed:    zero 

Between terminals VC and E2

always:    200 - 400 ohms 

Between terminals THA and E2

at -20°C (-4°F):    10 - 20 k ohms
at 0°C (32°F):    4 - 7 k ohms
at 20°C (68°F):    2 - 3 k ohms
