Introduction

Some Tacoma, 4Runner, T-100 and Land Cruisers with A340E, A340F or A343F automatic transmissions may produce a chatter noise when shifted out
of Reverse into either Neutral or Park. To prevent this noise, a check ball has been added to the valve body as indicated in the illustration.

Affected Vehicles

1997-98 model year Tacoma, 4Runner, T-100 and Land Cruiser with A340E, A340F or A343F automatic transmissions with serial numbers from
97H*-00001 through 97K*-99999.

Repair Procedure

1. Disassembly:

A. Remove valve body as described in the Repair Manual for the vehicle being serviced.
B. Turn over and remove 25 bolts.
