Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1.

Obtain audio anti-theft code, if equipped, as outlined in  Technician Safety Information.

2.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

3.

Remove steering wheel pad. On models with four spoke wheel, remove trim cover from center of steering wheel.

4.

On models with an air bag, loosen Torx screws holding center pad. These screws are held into steering wheel by a cage and cannot be removed
from wheel. Remove pad from steering wheel using care not to pull on air bag wire harness.

5.

Place alignment marks on steering wheel and mainshaft for assembly reference.

6.

Remove nut attaching steering wheel to steering shaft.

7.

Using a puller tool No. 09950-50010, or equivalent, remove steering wheel.

8.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On models with air bag, center spiral cable by turning counterclockwise until resistance is felt, then turn and additional three turns clockwise

and align red marks.

b. Inspect center pad for cracks dents or other damage. Replace damaged pads. Reinstall center pad, use care to ensure wire is not pinched or cut. 

Torque Torx screws to 7 ft. lb. Rearm air bag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.

c. Torque steering wheel nut to 25 ft. lb.
d. Reset audio coded anti-theft system, if equipped, as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
