c. Using SST, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

3. REMOVE LOWER BALL JOINT

a. Remove the cotter pin and nut from the lower ball joint.

Torque: 140 Nm (1,450 kgf-cm, 103 ft. lbs.) 

HINT:  At the time of installation, if the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut further up to 60°.

b. Using SST, disconnect the lower ball joint from the lower suspension arm.

HINT:  At the time of installation, face the cotter pin hole of the lower ball joint forward.

c. Remove the 4 bolts.
d. With lifting the upper suspension arm and steering knuckle, remove the lower ball joint.

HINT:  At the time of installation, after removing the lower ball joint, support the upper suspension arm and steering knuckle securely.

INSPECTION 

INSPECT LOWER BALL JOINT FOR ROTATION CONDITION 

a. As shown in the illustration, flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times before installing the nut.
b. Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously 1 turn each 2 - 4 seconds and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.

Turning torque: 0.1 - 2.5 Nm (11 - 25 kgf-cm, 1 - 22 inch lbs.) 

INSTALLATION 

Installation is in the reverse order of removal. 

HINT:  After installation, check the front wheel alignment.
