This new rear brake drum may also be used to improve rear brake vibration conditions which might exist on 1983 and 1984 Tercel 4x4 models.
The following step by step procedure is intended to aid in the diagnosis of rear brake vibration on 4x4 Tercel models.
1)
Determine that the brake vibration originates from the rear brake system. To accomplish this, slowly apply the hand brake at various
pressures and vehicle speeds. Make certain that the hand brake release button is held in continuously while operating the hand brake lever. If
the vibration is present when using the hand brake, replace both rear drums with new rear drums (P/N 42431-16031), and install new brake
shoes (P/N 04495-16030).
NOTE:
It is very important to properly torque the rear wheels with a torque wrench after installation of the new drums. Impact guns
should not be used. (Wheel nut torque - 65-87 ft.lbs.)
Road test to confirm repair.
2)
If brake vibration is still apparent, refer to the appropriate repair manual for further diagnostic procedures.
