Throttle Body: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove Throttle Body from engine.  Refer to COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES for proper procedure.
2. Remove Auxiliary Air Valve from underside of Throttle Body.
3. Using a soft brush and carburetor cleaner, clean the cast parts of the Throttle Body.

CAUTION:Do not allow carburetor cleaner to come in contact with the TPS, as damage will result.

4. Using compressed air, clean all passages and openings.

5. After cleaning, check that there is no clearance between the throttle stop screw and the throttle lever when the throttle valve is fully closed.

6. If there is evidence of tampering with the throttle stop screw, loosen the lock nut and turn the stop screw counter clockwise until there is clearance.
7. Tighten the stop screw until it just contacts the throttle lever.  Turn the screw 1/4 turn more, just to prevent the throttle valve from lodging in the 

Throttle Body casting. 

8. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES in COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS and check TPS adjustment.
9. If the throttle valve binds or appears to be bent, replace the Throttle Body.

10. If no problems are found, reinstall the Auxiliary Air Valve with new gasket and O-ring.

11. Reinstall the Throttle Body on the engine.  Refer to COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES for proper procedure.
