Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair

FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURES

NOTE: 
-

Use of safety goggles and other protective clothing is recommended when working on pressurized fuel systems.

-

DO NOT smoke during this procedure.

1. WHEN DISCONNECTING THE HIGH FUEL PRESSURE LINE, A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE WILL SPILL OUT, SO OBSERVE

THESE PROCEDURES:
-

Disconnect the fuel pump connector.

-

Start the engine. 

-

After the engine has stopped on its own, turn off the ignition switch.

-

Put a container under the connection.
NOTICE: Toyota recommends using the fuel filter for this procedure.

-

Slowly loosen the connection.

-

Disconnect the connection.

-

Plug the connection with a rubber plug.

2. WHEN CONNECTING THE FLARE NUT OR UNION BOLT ON THE HIGH PRESSURE PIPE UNION, OBSERVE THESE PROCEDURES:

For Union bolt type:

-

Always use a new gasket.

-

Tighten the union bolt by hand.

-

Tighten the bolt to the specified torque.

Torque: 29 Nm (290 kgf.cm; 22 ft.lb)

For Flare nut type:
-

Apply a light coat of oil on the flare and tighten the flare nut by hand.
