Throttle Body: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain engine coolant. Remove the air intake hose and the air cleaner top.
3. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle linkage and, on A/T models, disconnect the throttle cable.
4. Disconnect the emission vacuum hoses.
5. Remove the PCV hoses.  On Federal/Canada models, disconnect the dashpot vacuum hose, on California models, disconnect the throttle opener

vacuum hose.

6. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
7. Remove the fuel rail.
8. Remove the two bolts, two nuts and the throttle body together with the gasket.

9. Disconnect the water hose, No.1 water by-pass hose and the two No.4 air hoses.

INSTALLATION:

1. Connect the water hose (1), No.1 water by-pass hose (2), and the two No.4 air hoses (3) to the auxiliary air valve.

2. Using a new gasket, Install the throttle body with the two bolts and two nuts.  Torque both nuts and bolts to 14 ft.lbs (19 Nm).
3. Install the fuel rail.
4. Connect the throttle position sensor connector.
5. Install the air intake hose and the air cleaner top.
6. Install the PCV hoses.
7. Connect the emission vacuum hoses.
8. On A/T equipped models, connect and adjust the throttle cable.
9. Connect and adjust the accelerator cable.

10. Fill the cooling system with engine coolant.
