Vehicle - Modifications May Violate Safety Standards

As of this date, you should have received the 1989 TOYOTA BODY BUILDERS

GUIDE.

For your information, we have attached a copy of a letter we mailed to all of our dealers advising them of vehicle modifications which can affect
compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Please pay particular attention to the section in the dealer letter which refers to "alterations to incomplete (Cab & Chassis) vehicles)".

VEHICLE MODIFICATION

As a result of complaints that Toyota continues to receive through the U.S. Department of Transportation regarding alleged safety related conditions on
vehicles modified by second or final stage manufacturers, we have decided to send the attached letter to all TMD dealers to introduce the 1989 Body
Builders Guide and Cargo Van Technical Information Guide.

The letter cautions the dealer against alterations of certified vehicles, incomplete (cab and chassis) vehicles and used vehicles which may affect Federal
Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and could result in legal responsibilities on the dealership.

Similar communications have been sent to independent body builders and converters in the U.S. by our Fleet department.

We ask that you carefully review the content of the dealer letter and make sure that all appropriate regional personnel are also familiar with its content.
