Impact Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Side Airbag Sensor (for Front Side)
SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (for Front Side): ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
CAUTION: Be sure to follow the correct removal and installation procedures of the door side airbag sensor.
1. INSPECT DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)
(a) Perform a diagnostic system check See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble
Codes/DTC Check / Clear.
2. INSPECT DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS NOT DEPLOYED)
(a) Perform a diagnostic system check See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble
Codes/DTC Check / Clear.
(b) Visually check the door side airbag sensor for defects if a front door of the vehicle or the area around a front door is damaged.
(1) The defects are as follows:

Cracks on the sensor housing
-
Dents on the sensor housing
-
Chips on the sensor housing
-
Cracks or other damage to the connector
-
Peeling of the label
-
Damage to the serial number
OK:
No defects are found.
HINT: If any of the defects is found, replace the door side airbag sensor with a new one.
3. INSPECT DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)
(a) When airbags have deployed as the result of a collision, be sure to replace all door side airbag sensors in the damaged areas (anywhere in need
of repair).
(b) Visually check the door side airbag sensors in undamaged areas for defects.
(1) The defects are as follows:

Cracks on the sensor housing
-
Dents on the sensor housing
-
Chips on the sensor housing
-
Cracks or other damage to the connector
-
Peeling of the label
-
Damage to the serial number
OK:
No defects are found.
HINT: If any of the defects is found or a door side airbag sensor has detected a major collision, replace the door side airbag sensor with a new
one.
