Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
Removal

REMOVAL
CAUTION: Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS
airbag system before servicing the steering wheel See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Service Precautions.
1. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTICE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected See: Testing and
Inspection/Repair Instruction - Initialization.
3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and Repair/Steering
Pad/Removal
4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and Repair/Steering
Pad/Removal
5. REMOVE STEERING PAD See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and Repair/Steering Pad/Removal
6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.

(b) Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft.
(c) Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.
(d) Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.
