Fuel Injector: Adjustments
ADJUSTMENT
1. Move the nozzle tester lever over the entire stroke length at a rate of one time per second to check the valve opening pressure during fuel injection.
WARNING: Be extremely careful not to direct fuel spray to hand while adjusting fuel injection. It may penetrate into blood vein to the skin and
cause toxic symptoms.
2. Adjust fuel injection pressure using suitable adjusting shims. Fuel injection pressure is increased by increasing adjusting shim thickness and
decreased by reducing shim thickness.
-
There are 41 types of shim thicknesses from 0.50 to 1.50 mm (0.0197 to 0.0591 in) in increments of 0.025 mm (0.0010 in).
3. If the required adjusting shim thickness is exceeded, two types of different adjusting shim thicknesses may be used. If replacement of adjusting
shims does not make proper fuel injection pressure adjustments, replace the nozzle holder assembly with a new one.
4. While adjusting injection pressure, check the spray pattern. Also check for signs of fuel leakage or obstruction. If inspection reveals slight wear on
the seating surfaces of the nozzle body and needle, lap both using lapping compound. If either part requires replacement, replace both parts as a
unit.
