Important Safety Measures Proper maintenance and repair are very important for the safe and reliable functioning of all motor vehicles. The service procedures recommended by the Adam Opel AG/ Vauxhall Motors Ltd. and contained in these Service Instructions are effective methods of carrying out maintenance and repair. Some of these operations require the use of tools specially designed for a particular purpose. These Special Service Tools should be used as and when recommended. Service Instructions and Technical Information Bulletins belong in the hands of supervisors and mechanics, as they must be constantly referred to and carefully followed to ensure that the road safety and operational safety of the vehicle is maintained. You are particularly referred to the need to read carefully and observe the warnings and safety measures given in these Service Instructions in order to reduce the risk of physical damage to the workshop staff - as the result of incorrect actions - or damage to the vehicle and a reduction of driving safety. During operations where there is the risk of an electrical short circuit, disconnect the ground cable from the battery. This also applies if electrical welding is performed on a vehicle. Disconnecting the ground cable automatically deletes the memory contents of electronic systems. After reconnecting the battery, volatile memories must be reprogrammed and audio equipment decoded. Wiring harnesses and cable channels which are detached or removed during repair work must be replaced using original spare parts (cable ties, clips, cable channel holders etc.) from the "Service" area at the original positions.
It is to be noted that the fan can switch on during operations in the engine compartment - danger of injury! These warnings and precautions are not exhaustive. It is therefore particularly important that anyone who carries out repair work on a vehicle first satisfies himself thoroughly that neither his own safety nor vehicle safety will be jeopardised by the service method he selects. You are particularly referred to the fact that all work in the following operations must only be carried out in observance of the valid guidelines and regulations of the responsible local authorities with regard to the protection of the health and the avoidance of accidents and environmental protection.
