Lateral and radial runout of the wheel bearing unit, measure > < Damping bushings in the rear axle, replace

 

Tilt Play of Wheel Bearing Unit, Check  

If there is noticeable play on an installed wheel, measure as follows:  

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove rear wheel. Version with drum brake: remove brake drum - see operation "Brake Drum, Remove and Install" in group "H".  

Object Number: 616196  Size: DEFAULT  Inspect   

KM-468-B (3) screw on the brake disk or wheel bearing unit. Position the MKM-571-B (1) dial guage using a dial guage holder and magnetic foot (2) or dial guage holder (4) on the brake caliper or anchor plate.  

Set the tracer pin of the dial guage on the outer edge of the brake disk or the wheel bearing unit. Check the play through slight leverage with KM-468-B.  

Permissible tilt play: max. 0.3 mm. If this value is exceeded, the wheel bearing unit must be replaced - see operation "Wheel Bearing Unit, Remove and Install".

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

KM-468-B unscrew the brake disk or wheel bearing unit. Remove the MKM-571-B dial guage with the dial guage holder and magnetic foot or clamp from the brake caliper or anchor plate.  

For drum brake versions: install brake drum - see Operation " Brake drum, Remove and Install" in Group "H".  

Install rear wheel - tightening torque 110 Nm/81 lbf. ft.
