Cylinder Block and Crank Drive, X 17 DTL

 

The cylinder block is fitted with bores in the main bearing supports 1 to 4 for mounting the piston cooling oil spray nozzles (1).

In addition, a threaded port for supplying engine oil to the turbocharger is attached.

 

 

The pistons have reinforced heads and reinforced pin bosses.

 

 

The piston recess has been modified to reduce block smoke emissions.

 

 

The piston pin is extended and the inner diameter reduced.

 

 

The piston rings have been adapted to the increased requirements.

 

 

Rectangular compression ring coating:

- chrome ceramic

 

Tapered compression ring coating:

- improved alloy

The con-rods have been reinforced in the interests of durability.

The piston pin bushings have been taken over from the 17 DR engine.

 

 

·   Service

 

The material for the upper halves of the con-rod bearings has been changed to low-wear material due to the high ignition pressure (marked with "S" - 1).
