Adjust
At the fastening bolt of the toothed belt drive pulley, turn crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until marks align:
For 17 D and 17 DR: Mark (1) on flywheel must align with mark (2) on transmission housing. For X 17 DTL with single-piece oil pan: Mark (3) on flywheel must align with tip on TDC Adjuster KM-851. For X 17 DTL with two-piece oil pan: Crankshaft Retaining Pin KM-951 (5) must engage with flywheel stop. At the same time, notch (6) on fuel injection pump pulley must align with mark (7) on rear toothed belt cover.
To check TDC position: Remove oil filler closure cap and note cam position of camshaft - the cams for the first cylinder must point upwards.
