Valve Stem Clearance, Check  

  Measure   

Measure the inner diameter of the valve guide with internal measuring instrument.   Measure the outside diameter of the valve stem with micrometer.   Determine the difference between the outside diameter of the valve stem and the inner diameter of the valve guide. The difference corresponds to the valve stem play.   Permissible valve stem play:   Intake valve   0.015 to 0.047 mm   Exhaust valve   0.030 to 0.062 mm
