Engine Pressure Loss, Check  

Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature ≥ 80 ° C / 176 ° F).  

  Inspect   

Remove sheathed glow plugs - see operation "Sheathed Glow Plugs, Remove and Install". Use TDC detector to determine TDC position of relevant cylinder.  

  Install, Connect   

Connect pressure loss tester on conjunction with connector KM-649 and adaptor M-533-B to compressed air unit - Pressure 400 tos 600 kPa (4 to 6 bar).  

Connect test nozzle (1) and align pointer and mark "cal" by turning knurled bolt (2). Disconnect test nozzle (1).     Important!    The crankshaft must not turn when compressed air is injected into the relevant cylinders. To prevent this - engage 1st gear or selector lever position "P" and apply parking brake.

  Inspect   

Max. pressure difference between individual cylinders approx. 10 %. Pressure loss per cylinder must not exceed 25%.  

Observe air escaping from the components listed below in order to localise damage: intake ducts, exhaust, coolant compensation tank, oil dipstick guide tube, oil filler opening and sheathed glow plugs threaded bore.  

Pressure loss for 3rd, 4th and 2nd cylinders analogously. Injection sequence: 1-3-4-2.  

  Install, Connect   

Remove pressure loss tester. Install sheathed glow plugs - see operation "Sheathed Glow Plugs, Remove and Install".
