Valve Clearance, Check and Adjust
Remove, Disconnect Remove engine vent hose. Remove cylinder head cover.
Inspect Turn crankshaft in engine rotation direction, until piston of 1st cylinder is at TDC. Mark on crankshaft pulley (arrow) must align with pointer on oil pump. The cams (1) on the camshaft are on top, therefore both 1st cylinder valves are closed. Check valve clearance with feeler gauge on cold engine.
Intake valve - 0.15 mm. |
Exhaust valve - 0.25 mm. |
|
|
Important! Note that the valves are not adjusted when the pistons are at TDC. The valves could strike the pistons.
Adjust Turn crankshaft until the cam nose of the valve to be adjusted points upwards. Turn the cup tappets, so that the tappet groove points forwards.
Remove, Disconnect Press down cup tappets with KM-650-A, lever out and remove shim. |
|
Example for calculation of washer thickness:
1. |
Thickness of shim - installed |
3.15 mm |
2. |
Measurement between cam and cup tappets |
+ 0.25 mm |
|
|
= 3.40 mm |
3. |
Nominal valve clearance |
- 0.15 mm |
4. |
Thickness of new shim |
= 3.25 mm |
Install, Connect Coat new shim (1) with engine oil and insert in cup tappets with identification mark underneath.
Inspect Check/adjust valve clearance of cylinders 2, 3 and 4 in same manner. After installation of new shims, turn crankshaft over and check valve clearance again.
Tighten (Torque) Cylinder head cover with new gasket to cylinder head - 8 Nm/6 lbf. ft. |
