Timing, Check  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove air cleaner or air resonator with air intake hoses. Remove upper toothed belt cover (note different bolt lengths).     Inspect    Rotate crankshaft in direction of engine rotation, until the 1st cylinder piston is at "Ign. TDC". The piston of the 1st cylinder is at "Ign. TDC" when the oil pump pin aligns with the identification mark on the crankshaft pulley and the 1st cylinder cam points upwards.

  Inspect   

Install TDC fixing bolts (1) in camshaft drive gear and injection pump drive gear.   Bolt, camshaft drive gear   M6 x 1.00   Bolt, injection pump drive gear   M8 x 1.25     If correctly adjusted, the TDC fixing bolts (1) must be able to be inserted in the drive gears for the camshaft and injection pump in this position.   If the locking bolts cannot be inserted, correct adjustment.

Timing, Adjust  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Suspend engine on Engine Bridge MKM-883-1 or KM-263-B. Remove fastening bolts (1) from engine damping block (2).   Remove the fixing bolts of the engine damping block (3) from the cylinder block holder and remove the engine damping block. Remove the cylinder block holder (4) from the cylinder block.

  Adjust   

Loosen fastening bolts (3) of tension roller fastening. Press tension roller fastening (1) to the left, thus releasing the tension spring (4), which can be detached.   The toothed belt is released and can be removed from the toothed belt gears of the injection pump and camshaft.   If necessary, rotate toothed belt pulleys (short distance), until the TDC fixing bolts (2) can be inserted.   Install the toothed belt first on the camshaft toothed belt gear, then on the injection pump toothed belt gear. Attach tension spring. Unscrew TDC fixing bolts (2).   Tension toothed belts - to do this rotate the crankshaft approx. 60 ° against the direction of engine rotation - the toothed belts will be tensioned automatically.   Install toothed belt tension roller fastening bolts in cylinder block -   19 Nm/14 lbf. ft.

  Inspect   

Turn crankshaft 2 revolutions in direction of engine rotation and check the timing adjustment by inserting the TDC fixing bolts. The oil pump pointer must align with the V-belt pulley identification mark. Remove TDC fixing bolts.  

  Install, Connect   

Fit the cylinder block holder on the cylinder block - tightening torque 45 Nm. Insert the engine damping block and fit to holder - tightening torque 35 Nm. Fit the engine damping block to the side member - tightening torque 65 Nm.  

Remove Engine Bridge KM-263-B or MKM-883-1. Install upper toothed belt cover (note different bolt lengths). Install air cleaner or air resonator.
