Conditions for Checking

Affected terminals:                   F1, F2

Possible trouble codes:             43, 47

Model Year 95, X 16 XEL only:

Engine running at idle speed, operating temperature

Vehicle stationary

Selector lever in position P or N

Press key F5 in the system main menu, select the desired test using the arrow keys and confirm with YES. Follow the instructions in the TECH 1 display.

Note:

The exhaust gas recirculation valve is constantly actuated to 20% aperture.

The check is completed after a maximum of 10 s or at an engine speed higher than 2000 rpm.

When key F9 is pressed, the data can be stored in the snapshot mode for later evaluation.

With the X 14 XE and X 16 XE engines (MY '95) it may happen that this test can be selected but is then not performed by the control unit. In this case: disconnect TECH 1 from diagnostic plug, switch ignition off and on again.

EGR POSITION CMD and

EGR POS. FDBK alternate regularly from 0% to 20% aperture

Engine speed sinks

IMPORTANT:

The test cannot be started if:

trouble codes are stored

the battery voltage is lower than 12.5 V

the coolant temperature is lower than 80 °C/ 176 °F

the vehicle speed is higher than 0 km/h (0 mph)

the idle speed conditions are not fulfilled (see F0:DATA LIST nos. 05, 06, 34 and 42)
