·   This is not an actual measured value, but rather an ignition value taken from the engine control unit.

·   If the firing angle values read off with TECH 1 deviate significantly from the above nominal values, check the following input signals:

 

 

 

·   All consumers switched off

 

 

 

·   TECH 1 data list no. 05

     TPS SIGNAL

·   TECH 1 data list no. 06

     MAP SENSOR

·   TECH 1 data list no. 07

  COOLANT TEMP.

·   TECH 1 data list no. 08

     INTAKE AIR TEMP.

·   TECH 1 data list no. 15

     KNOCK VOLTAGE to no. 21

     KNOCK RTD. CYL.4

·   Remedy according to data list no. 26

     FUEL TANK VENT.

·   Remedy according to 5.3 additional fault diagnosis 01 camshaft sensor

PART A:

 

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from:

     L2 direct ignition module

·   Ignition ON

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage:

     from:       L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 1

     to:           ground

 

higher than 11 V

 

·   Short circuit to ground or lead interruption

     from:       L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 1

     to:           S1 ignition lock Ter. 15

·   S1 ignition lock defective.

 

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage:

     from:       L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 1

     to:   L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 2

 

higher than 11 V

·   Short circuit to voltage or circuit interruption

     from:       L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 2

     to:           ground

·   Bridge wiring harness plug

     from:       L2 direct ignition module Ter. 1

     to:           L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 1

     and

     from:       L2 direct ignition module Ter. 2

     to:           L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 2

·   Connect checking spark plugs to high voltage outputs 1 and 4

·   Pulse L2 direct ignition module Ter. 3 to battery +

 

Ignition spark visible at checking spark plug

 

·   L2 direct ignition module defective.

 

·   Connect checking spark plugs to high voltage outputs 2 and 3

·   Pulse L2 direct ignition module Ter. 4 to battery +

 

Ignition spark visible at checking spark plug

 

·   L2 direct ignition module defective.

PART B:

 

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from:

     K57 engine control unit

·   Connect wiring harness plug:

     L2 direct ignition module

·   Ignition ON

·   Connect checking spark plugs to high voltage outputs 2 and 3

·   Pulse K57 wiring harness plug for engine control unit Ter. F14 to battery +

 

Ignition spark visible at checking spark plug

 

·   Short circuit to ground / voltage or circuit interruption

     from:       K57 wiring harness plug for engine control unit Ter. F14

     to:           L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 4

 

·   Connect checking spark plugs to high voltage outputs 1 and 4

·   Pulse K57 wiring harness plug for engine control unit Ter. E14 to battery +

Ignition spark visible at checking spark plug

 

·   Short circuit to ground / voltage or circuit interruption

     from:       K57 wiring harness plug for engine control unit Ter. E14

     to:           L2 wiring harness plug for direct ignition module Ter. 3

 

·   Check spark plugs

·   Check spark plug connectors

·   Check high voltage cables

 

OK

·   Spark plugs defective

·   Spark plug connectors defective

·   High voltage cable defective

 

·   Check control unit calibration, see field remedy measures

Latest program memory (EPROM) according to field remedy measures or TIs

 

·   Replace program memory (EPROM) according to field remedy measures or TIs

·   Repeat test

 

 

If nominal values are attained and the latest program memory is installed

·   K57 engine control unit defective
