02 INTEGRATOR

Engine running at idle speed, operating temperature

Switch off all consumers

98 to 158 STEPS

13, 38, 39

7, 25, 19, 36

Note:   The tendency (rich or lean mixture) of the oxygen sensor regulation can be evaluated using the 02 INTEGRATOR.

If, for example, the intake air / fuel mixture is too lean (actual value greater than 128 STEPS), the value of the 02 INTEGRATOR is increased in steps until the oxygen sensor signals "mixture too rich". The 02 INTEGRATOR now begins to decrease its value again. This regulation is necessary for optimal catalytic converter efficiency.

Actual value        98 to 158 STEPS                   = nominal range

Actual value        less than 98 STEPS               = system gets leaner as the mixture is too rich

Actual value        greater than 158 STEPS        = system gets richer as the mixture is too lean

To evaluate a deviation (above or below tolerance range) of the 02 INTEGRATOR, the 02 BLM IDLE THR. and 02 BLM PART THR. must also be considered. If the 02 INTEGRATOR is outside of the tolerance range, observe the 02 BLM IDLE THR. and 02 BLM PART THR.

If 02 BLM IDLE THR. or 02 BLM PART THR. remain at a fixed value outside the tolerance, the 02 INTEGRATOR can be evaluated.

Notes on Trouble - shooting:

Nominal Value:

Cause of Fault:

Measured value less than 98 STEPS

(system gets leaner, mixture too rich)

·     Check fuel pump pressure in feed (observe safety measures):

       -      connect pressure gauge to distributor pipe test connection

       -      Bleed pressure gauge before measuring

       -      Start engine and allow to run at idle speed

2.3 ± 0.1 bar

·     Fuel pressure too high

·     Pressure regulator defective

·     Return line blocked or kinked

·     Baffle plate in fuel tank blocked

·     Vacuum hose at pressure regulator leaky

·     Disconnect hose from fuel pressure regulator and measure pressure in system

Further possible faults:

3.0 ± 0.1 bar

·     Pressure regulator defective

·     Tank vent valve constantly open

·     Oxygen sensor defective (see test step 26, 27, 28)

·     Control unit defective

Measured value greater than 158 STEPS

(system gets richer, mixture too lean)

·     Check fuel pump pressure in feed (observe safety measures):

       -      connect pressure gauge to distributor pipe test connection

       -      Bleed pressure gauge before measuring

       -      Start engine and allow to run at idle speed

2.3 ±0.1 bar

·     Fuel filter dirty

·     Fuel pressure too low

·     Fuel pump defective

·     Baffle plate in tank loose

·     Pressure regulator defective

·     Disconnect hose from fuel pressure regulator and measure pressure in system

Further possible faults:

3.0 ± 0.1 bar

·     Pressure regulator defective

·     Injector defective or dirty

·     Poor fuel quality

·     Intake system leaky (air leak)

·     Oxygen sensor defective (see test step 26, 27, 28)

·     Exhaust system leaky

·     Control unit defective
