Remove and install induction manifold (C 14 NZ, X 14 NZ, 16 NZR, C 16 NZ, X 16 SZ, X 16 SZR, 16 LZ2 and C 18 NZ)  

  Important!   

Fuel escapes - observe safety and local regulations. Fuel system is under pressure. Remove fuel pump relay - see operation "Fuel Pump Relay, Remove and Install". Start engine at least 5 sec. - fuel pressure reduction.  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove lower coolant hose from radiator - collect coolant.  

Detach air intake hose (2) from air cleaner housing. Detach engine vent hose (1) from camshaft housing cover. Detach air intake cover (3) and vacuum hose (4).   Detach engine vent hose (5) from camshaft housing cover. Disconnect wiring harness plug (7) from idle speed stepper motor.   For X 14 NZ, X 16 SZ and X 16 SZR: withdraw cable harness connector (6) from the exhaust gas recirculation valve.

  Remove, Disconnect   

For C 14 NZ, X 14 NZ, 16 NZR, C 16 NZ, X 16 SZ and X 16 SZR: withdraw cable harness connector (1) from the coolant temperature sensor.   Detach accelerator Bowden cable (2).   Detach wiring harness plug (3) from coolant temperature sensor, wiring harness plug (4) from injector and wiring harness plug (5) from throttle valve potentiometer.   Detach fuel lines from throttle valve injection housing - before removal, mark allocation and close off with spring clamps.   Detach brake servo vacuum line from intake manifold.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Detach vacuum hose (1) from intake manifold pressure sensor. Detach coolant hose (2) from intake manifold.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Vehicles with V-belt: detach V-belt from alternator. Detach alternator shackle from intake manifold.   Loosen lower alternator fastening bolt - swing alternator backwards.

  Remove, Disconnect   

For engines from MY '93: mark the direction of motion of the ribbed V-belt. Remove tension from ribbed V-belt by means of ribbed V-belt tension roller and KM-913-A in clockwise direction and remove ribbed V-belt from the generator ribbed V-belt pulley.   Loosen fastening bolts (1) and (2), remove fastening bolts (3) and (4) from alternator.   Loosen lower alternator fastening bolt - swing alternator backwards.     Remove, Disconnect

Remove intake manifold from cylinder head.     Clean    Clean sealing surfaces and remove sealant remnants.

  Install, Connect   

Install intake manifold with new gasket at cylinder head - tightening torque 22 Nm/16 lbf. ft.  

For engines from MY '93: install support and strap on induction manifold and generator - tightening torque 18 Nm. Tighten lower generator fastening bolt - tightening torque 35 Nm. Place ribbed V-belt in position - tension ribbed V-belt by means of ribbed V-belt tension roller and KM-913-A. Note direction of motion of the ribbed V-belt.  

Engines with V-belt: install V-belt - see operation "V-belt, Remove and Install".  

Attach coolant hose to intake manifold. Attach vacuum hose to intake manifold pressure sensor. Attach brake servo vacuum line to intake manifold - 20 Nm/15 lbf. ft. Attach fuel lines to throttle valve injection housing - note allocation. Connect wiring harness plugs to idle speed stepper motor, throttle valve potentiometer, injectors and coolant temperature sensor. Attach accelerator Bowden cable.  

For C 14 NZ, X 14 NZ, 16 NZR, C 16 NZ, X 16 SZ and X 16 SZR: place cable harness connector on coolant temperature sensor. For X 16 SZ and X 16 SZR: place cable harness connector on exhaust gas recirculation valve.  

Attach engine vent hoses to camshaft housing cover. Attach air intake cover to throttle valve injection housing - note gasket. Attach air intake hose to air cleaner housing. Attach lower coolant hose to radiator.  

Top up cooling system - see operation "Cooling System, Top Up and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for Leaks".
