Valve Stem Seals, Replace (Cylinder Head Installed)  

Required Special Service Tools from Valve Depressor Device MKM-889.

  Important!   

Always ensure that during installation the oil backflow holes in the cylinder head are covered.  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove camshaft, rocker arm and thrust piece - see operation "Camshaft and Rocker Arm, Remove and Install (cylinder head installed)".  

  Install, Connect   

Withdraw spark plug connector and remove spark plugs with KM-194-C. Screw compressed air adaptor (4) into spark plug thread and apply compressed air. Fasten link (3) on rocker arm and assemble with assembly shaft (2) and angle (1) on camshaft housing.   Notice:  When replacing the valve stem seals for exhaust valves, install installation bridge on intake side, when replacing the valve stem seals for intake valves, install installation bridge on exhaust side.     Remove, Disconnect    Fasten removal head (5) at lever arm - when pressing down the removal head, ensure that the valve spring is compressed parallel to the valve axle. Place removal head (5) on upper valve head, compress valve spring and remove valve keepers with pliers. Release tension in valve spring and remove together with upper valve head.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove valve stem seals with KM-840 (1).     Install, Connect    Wet valve shaft with engine oil.   Insert new valve stem seal (2) with KM-352.   Drive valve stem seal CAREFULLY in to stop with LIGHT hammer blows.

  Install, Connect   

Install thrust piece (2) in installation head (3). Insert valve keepers (1) with broad side downwards in installation head and clamp by pushing the plastic ring (4) forward.   Fasten installation head at lever arm (5) - when pressing down the removal head, ensure that the valve spring is compressed parallel to the valve axle. Place valve spring with upper valve head on cylinder head and compress with installation head. By slightly moving the installation head, allow valve keepers to engage. Release tension in valve spring and check seating of the valve keepers.   Remove installation shaft, angle and compressed air adapter.   Install spark plugs with KM-194-C - tightening torque 25 Nm. Push on spark plug connector.   Install thrust piece, rocker arm and camshaft - see operation "Camshaft and Rocker Arm, Remove and Install (cylinder head installed)".
