Driving Programs (Continued) Sport (4 gear sequence, sporty driving). Switching on and off behaves in opposite manner to "economy" driving program. "Sport Program" is automatically quit after engine is stopped. Winter (driving off on slippery road surfaces in 3rd gear) On vehicles with neutral switching, the winter program switches itself off when one of the following conditions is fulfilled:
Driving Programs (Continued) Adaptive 1 (non-optional). Activated depending on the vehicle load (trailer operation or driving on incline). The shift characteristic curves in driving stage "D" (mainly 3/4 4/3 shifting) are delayed to ensure later upshifting. Adaptive 2 (non-optional). Activated when driving steep inclines. The shift characteristic curves in driving stage "D" (mainly 3/4 4/3 shifting) are further delayed to ensure even later upshifting (relative to adaptive 1). Operating temperature (non-optional). Upshift points when the engine is cold are set higher to delay upshifting in the individual gears. The increased engine speeds allow the operating temperature to be attained more rapidly, enabling faster catalytic converter response. The program is switched off when the operating temperature is attained, when the Winter or sport program is switched on, when kickdown is actuated and with ignition "Off".
