Remove, Disconnect Remove differential - see operation "Differential, Remove and Install". Removing sealing ring from bearing ring and transmission with KM-454-2 and KM-454-4. Only required for replacement of bearing: Tapered roller bearing outer race out of bearing race. KM-304 (2) and KM-451 (1), KM-303 (3) reduction. Remove tapered roller bearing outer race from transmission with KM-305 and KM-451. For dismantled transmission use KM-304 (4) and KM-451 (5). |
Remove, Disconnect Only necessary if replacement: Remove both tapered roller bearing inner races from differential housing, KM-161-B, KM-161-3, KM-161-4.
Important! If re-using the tapered roller bearing the respective inner and outer races must not be interchanged. For reconditioning work the speedometer helical gear (driven) if present is destroyed. This is not replaced on re-assembly.
Remove, Disconnect |
Clamp differential housing in vice using soft jaws. Unscrew ring gear from differential housing. Knock off drive gear from differential housing drive gear with brass drift. |
Important! Replace drive gears in pairs only (driving and driven). Note identification groove running round tip of tooth, see "Survey" in section "Technical Data". Only necessary if replacement:
Remove, Disconnect Retaining rings from bevel gear shaft. Bevel gear shaft. Withdrawing adjusting and drive shaft bevel gears. Take off thrust washers.
Clean Clean all removed parts and transmission housing.
Inspect Check removed parts for wear, signs of scoring, damage and hairline cracks; if necessary, replace. Lubricate rotating parts on their bearing, running, seating and pressure surfaces. |
Notice: Dip all parts of the assembly in transmission oil.
Install, Connect Drive shafts and adjusting bevel gears, thrust washers and bevel gear shaft in differential housing. Pre-assemble adjusting bevel gears and thrust washers, KM-456. Fit drive shaft bevel gears and thrust washers into differential housing. |
Bevel gear shaft (1). New retaining rings (2), gripper insert 12, commercially available. |
Torque - Angle Method Drive gear with new bolts on differential housing, for F 13: 70 Nm plus 30 ° to 45 ° . Warm drive gear to 80 ° C (Check temperature with thermocolour rods if available, or use applicable temperature measurement device). Drive gears (driving and driven) only replace in pairs. Note the surrounding identifying groove or colour identification - refer "Overview" in chapter "Technical data". Press tapered roller bearing inner race on differential housing, KM-453.
Install, Connect |
Each tapered roller bearing outer race in transmission or bearing ring, KM-120-2 and KM-451 (transmission installed). Tap tapered roller bearing outer race lightly into housing. With transmission removed: KM-304 and KM-451 may be used for both sides. |
Install, Connect Drive new drive shaft sealing rings flush into ring bearing for transmissions with KM-446. Dust lip to outside - smear sealing lip with molybdenum di-sulphide paste. Install differential - see operation "Differential, Remove and Install". |
