Quick Measurement Procedure
Instead of using welding gauges for frame repair, the
advancement of technology now prescribes the usage of straightening
benches such as those made by Celette Co. or, Car Bench Co.
For quick evaluation of damage on the vehicle underbody,
instructions are given in this group for the usage of an economical
test method with the Telescopic Measuring Instrument MKM-642-A. Its
usage is quite simple. Exchangeable measuring tips are used to
quickly locate actual values at different measuring locations.
Removal of components or trailer hitch (if present) is not
necessary.
Checking the axle geometry gives further information on the
extent of the damage. For measuring the front axle geometry see
operation "Chassis Alignment" in group "E". For measuring the rear
axle geometry see operation "Chassis Alignment" in group "F".
Lifting of the outer spring winding from its seat is also an
apparent sign of deformation of the outrigger or frame side
member.
Section shows checking dimension between centre of fastening
bolts on front axle.

When measuring, adjust extensions at both ends of measuring rod
to same dimension.
