Check crankshaft bearing clearance (with micrometer gauge and internal measuring device) > < Check crankshaft end play

Check crankshaft bearing clearance (with plastigage)

Note:   Crankshaft bearing cap removed

  Measure

Important:   To prevent thread from breaking when removing bearing cover, remove grease from crankshaft bearing journal and lightly oil bearing shell. Do not rotate crankshaft.
1.   Lay on Plastigage
•   Lay Plastigage (flexible plastic thread) axially over the entire width of the con-rod bearing journal (1)
Note:   Plastigage is available via the "Opel/Vauxhall Workshop Equipment" catalogue

Important:   Note installation position. Lug points to intake side
2.   Install crankshaft bearing cap with crankshaft bearing shell
•   Tighten 2x bolts
Note:   It is not necessary to replace the bolts when aligning the crankshaft
3.   Remove crankshaft bearing cap with crankshaft bearing shell
•   Unscrew 2x bolts
Note:   Note marking on crankshaft bearing cap
4.   Measure crankshaft bearing play
•   Compare width of flattened plastic thread (1) to measuring scale (2)
Note:   When reading the value, do not confuse millimetres and inches on the measuring scale
•   Permissible crankshaft bearing clearance

5.   Clean crankshaft bearing journal and crankshaft bearing shell

Check crankshaft bearing clearance (with micrometer gauge and internal measuring device) > < Check crankshaft end play
