Remove and install all pistons with con-rods (with F40-6 transmission or AF40-6 transmission from MY 07) > < Replacing one piston / con-rod

Piston Rings, Replace

  Remove

1.   Remove piston with con-rod
•   with manual transmission
•   with automatic transmission LUREF_1.gif
2.   Clamp piston in vice with con-rod
Note:   Use protective jaws
3.   Detach 3x piston ring
Note:   Detach piston rings with piston ring pliers (1). Note allocation of the piston rings
•   Remove spiral-type expander of the oil scraper ring out of piston ring groove

4.   Clean ring grooves
Note:   Remove carbonised oil residue in the piston ring groove with split and ground piston ring

  Measure

5.   Measure joint clearance
•   Insert 3x new piston ring in cylinder
•   Measure joint clearance with feeler gauge

6.   Measure vertical play
•   Insert 3x new piston ring in piston ring groove
Note:   Note markings (arrow) on the compression rings
•   Measure vertical play with feeler gauge

  Install

7.   Install 3x piston ring with piston ring pliers
•   Insert spiral-type expander of oil scraper ring in piston ring groove
•   Install oil scraper ring
•   Install 2x compression ring
Note:   Note markings on the compression rings
8.   Remove piston with con-rod from vice
9.   Install piston with con-rod
•   with automatic transmission LUREF_1.gif
•   with manual transmission
