Check con-rod bearing clearance (with micrometer gauge and internal measuring device) > < Con-rod Bearing, Replace

Check con-rod bearing clearance (with plastigage)

  Measure

1.   Remove oil pan
2.   Remove con-rod bearing cap
•   Mark installation position (1) of con-rod bearing cap
•   Unscrew 2x bolts
•   Degrease con-rod bearing cap and wet the con-rod bearing clip with engine oil

3.   Lay on Plastigage
Important:   Do not rotate crankshaft
•   Lay Plastigage (flexible plastic thread) over the entire width of the con-rod bearing journal
Note:   Plastigage is available via the "Opel/Vauxhall Workshop Equipment" catalogue
4.   Install con-rod bearing cap
•   Tighten 2x bolt 35 Nm + 45° + 15°
5.   Remove con-rod bearing cap
•   Unscrew 2x bolts
6.   Measure con-rod bearing play
•   Compare width of flattened plastic thread with measuring scale
Note:   When reading the value, do not confuse millimetres and inches on the measuring scale
•   Permissible con-rod bearing play: 0.019 to 0.071 mm.

7.   Install con-rod bearing cap
Important:   Check markings on parts
•   Wet con-rod bearing journal and con-rod bearing clips with engine oil
•   Tighten 2x bolt 35 Nm + 45° + 15°
Renew bolts
8.   Install oil pan

Check con-rod bearing clearance (with micrometer gauge and internal measuring device) > < Con-rod Bearing, Replace
