Check crankshaft bearing clearance with
plastigage
Measure
2. |
With "plastigage" (malleable plastic thread).
|
Important: To prevent thread from
breaking when removing bearing cover, remove grease from crankshaft
bearing journal and lightly oil bearing shell. Do not rotate
crankshaft.
|
3. |
Cut thread to width of bearing and place axially between
crankshaft bearing journal and bearing shell (arrow)
|
4. |
Fit bearing cap with torque 50 Nm +
45° + 15° .
Note: The bolts can be
reused for checking crankshaft bearing play.
|
|
|
6. |
Compare width of flattened plastic thread (arrow) to measuring
scale
|
7. |
"Plastigage" is available for various tolerance ranges
|
8. |
Perm. crankshaft bearing play: 0.015 to 0.043 mm
Note: Do not confuse
millimetre and inch information on measuring scale when reading off
value
|
9. |
Attach crankshaft bearing cap to cylinder block using new bolts
50 Nm + 45° + 15° .
