Con-rod Bearing, Replace
Remove
2. |
Set crankshaft on torsional vibration damper in direction of
engine rotation to BDC of cylinders 1 and 4
|
3. |
Identify con-rod with con-rod bearing cover (1)
|
|
|
Important: The shear surfaces of
the con-rod and the con-rod bearing cover form a unique fit and
must not be swapped or damaged. Do not lay down on the shear
surfaces
|
4. |
Remove con-rod bearing covers 1 and 4 (1)
Note: Note cylinder
sequence

Push piston with con-rod up into cylinder bore
|
|
|
|
5. |
Remove con-rod bearing mounting clips (1) and (2)
Note: Observe correct
fitting position, observe alignment
• |
Visually check components
|
|
|
|
6. |
Turn crankshaft on torsional vibration damper through 180°
in direction of rotation of engine
|
7. |
Identify con-rod with con-rod bearing cover (1)
|
|
|
Important: The shear surfaces of
the con-rod and the con-rod bearing cover form a unique fit and
must not be swapped or damaged. Do not lay down on the shear
surfaces

8. |
Remove con-rod bearing covers 2 and 3 (1)
Note: Note cylinder
sequence

Push piston with con-rod up into cylinder bore
|
|
|
|
9. |
Remove con-rod bearing mounting clips (1) and (2)
Note: Observe correct
fitting position, observe alignment
• |
Visually check components
|
|
|
|
10. |
Clean con-rod bearing journal and con-rod bearing cap
|
Install
11. |
Insert con-rod bearing shells into con-rods and con-rod bearing
caps
• |
Wet con-rod bearing clips with engine oil
|
|
12. |
Wet con-rod bearing journal with engine oil
|
13. |
Install con-rod bearing covers 2 and 3 (1)
• |
Tighten 4x bolt 35 Nm + 45° +
15°
|
|
|
|
14. |
Turn crankshaft on torsional vibration damper through 180°
in direction of rotation of engine
|
15. |
Wet con-rod bearing journal with engine oil
|
16. |
Install con-rod bearing covers 1 and 4 (1)
• |
Tighten 4x bolt 35 Nm + 45° +
15°
|
