Check for engine leaks (CO content in coolant)
1. |
Test engine for leaks
• |
Condition: Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature
>= 80 °C)
|
|
3. |
Check coolant level
• |
Correct coolant level if necessary
|
|
Warning: Cooling system is under
pressure
|
4. |
Unscrew and remove cover of coolant expansion tank
• |
Carefully release the pressure
|
|
5. |
Attach tester (1)
Note: Pay attention to
manufacturer-specific regulations
• |
To coolant compensation tank

7. |
Check engine for leaks
Note: The air is sucked
out of the compensation tank coolant by actuating the rubber
bellows. No coolant may be sucked up during this operation. If the
blue fluid in the upper chamber of the tester turns yellow, this
means that the cylinder head gasket or cylinder head is unsealed.
Procedure: in the transparent cylinder of the tester, there is a
blue reactive fluid which turns yellow if air is sucked in which
contains the smallest amount of carbon monoxide. The test fluid is
regenerated by sucking in fresh air, i.e. it turns blue again. The
fluid can be tested as the exhaust emissions are sucked out of the
exhaust pipe. The test fluid must turn yellow when this is
done.
