Mechanical Function Check

  • Check the following component for damage, contamination and correct installation:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft

Note:

The distance between the pulse-generator wheel and the crankshaft sensor must be 0.2 mm to 1.7 mm .

Test okay?

Yes: No:
T002

Check: Short to Voltage of Signal Circuit

  • Ignition OFF
  • Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
  • Ignition ON
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 37 (XC3)
    &
    Ground

less than 0.3 V

Voltage Measurement Current Value: V
Yes: No:
T003

Check: Short to Ground of Signal Circuit

  • Ignition OFF
  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 37 (XC3)
    &
    Ground

greater than 500 kOhm

Resistance Measurement Current Value: kOhm
Yes: No:
T004

Check: Interruption of Signal Circuit

  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 5 (XC3)
    &
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 37 (XC3)

1275 ... 1775 Ohm

Resistance Measurement Current Value: Ohm
Yes: No:
T005

Check: Diagnostic Trouble Code stored

  • Is the trouble code P0335 with the symptom (0F), (64) stored?
Yes: No:
T006

Check: Diagnostic Trouble Code stored

  • Connect wiring harness connector to:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
  • Delete trouble codes
  • Engine at operating temperature
  • Engine running for 2-3 min at different engine speeds.
  • Read and record diagnostic trouble codes including status

Is the trouble code P0335 with the symptom (0F), (64) stored?

Yes: No:
T007

Check: Diagnostic Trouble Code stored

  • Is the trouble code P0335 with the symptom 04, 08 stored?

Yes: No:
T008

Check: Diagnostic Trouble Code stored

  • Connect wiring harness connector to:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
  • Delete trouble codes
  • Engine at operating temperature
  • Engine running for 2-3 min at different engine speeds.
  • Read and record diagnostic trouble codes including status

Is the trouble code P0335 with the symptom 04, 08 stored?

Yes: No:
T009

Check: Component

  • Delete trouble codes
  • Ignition OFF
  • Replace the following components by new ones:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
  • Engine running for 2-3 min at different engine speeds.
  • Read and record diagnostic trouble codes including status

Note:

Before replacing the component, check for excessive contamination.

Is the trouble code P0335 with the symptom 04, 08 stored?

Yes: No:
T010

Check: Component

  • Remove electrical component from socket:
    K1_X125 Relay - Starter
  • Connect fused jumper wire to:
    K1_X125 Relay - Starter
    Socket Terminal 87
    &
    Battery voltage
  • Switch multimeter to alternating-current voltage measurement.
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 5 (XC3)
    &
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 37 (XC3)

greater than 0.8 V

Check: Adjustment

  • Check the following component for proper operation:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
    (intermittent problems, missing teeth, wrong reference point, incorrect gap position, etc.)

Note:

The distance between the pulse-generator wheel and the crankshaft sensor must be 0.2 mm to 1.7 mm .

Test okay?

Yes: No:
T012

Check: Interruption of Signal Circuit

  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 5 (XC3)
    &
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 37 (XC3)

greater than 1775 Ohm

Resistance Measurement Current Value: Ohm
Yes: No:

Cause Of Fault

E001 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft

or

  • Remove following component:
    Oil Pan
  • Check the following component for mechanical damage:
    Pulse-Generator Wheel

Note:

The distance between the pulse-generator wheel and the crankshaft sensor must be 02 mm to 1.7 mm .

E002 Result: High Transition Resistance
  • Check all wiring and all connectors between the following components for corrosion, damage or moisture penetration:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    &
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
E003 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine

Note:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.

E004 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
E005 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine

Important:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.

E006 Result: Repair other system
  • Repair the concerned circuit/component.
E007 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
E008 Result: Interruption
  • Circuit interruption between:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 37 (XC3)
    &
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1
    or
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 5 (XC3)
    &
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2

or

  • Defective component:

or

or

  • Defective component:

  • Short circuit to voltage between:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 37 (XC3)
    &
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1
    or
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 5 (XC3)
    &
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2

or

  • Defective component:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
E012 Result: Mechanical Fault
  • Adjust the installation of the following component:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
