Complaint: |
Booming noise between 2500 – 3500 rpm
in cold engine condition. |
Cause: |
A burr on the upper portion of rear timing
belt cover touching the front cover causes vibrations / booming
noise. |
Production: |
As of engine number 20PA6483 (18. November
2009) modified timing belt covers has been implemented into
production. |
Remedy:
In case of customer complaint remove upper timing belt cover
and check timing belt drive for noises. Afterwards remove burr
(height approx. 0.3 mm) from rear timing belt cover.
For Insignia please pay attention to the Technical Service
Bulletin 2487 and 2517.
Working Procedure:
1. Remove upper timing belt cover (Picture I, 1).
- unscrew 2 bolts (2)
2. Start engine and let it run with 2500 – 3500 rpm for 2 minutes.
Important:
The checking procedure has to be performed in cold engine
conditions.
Are there no further noises audible remove the burr from
the rear timing belt cover.
3. Remove burr (Picture II, arrows) from rear timing belt cover (1).
Important:
Remove burr with a suitable tool.
Protect timing belt drive from contamination.
4. Install upper timing belt cover.
- Install and tighten 2 bolts 6 Nm

Burr elimination
The costs for this repair will be covered during the normal warranty.
The regular Warranty procedure will apply.
