Test specification for selector level safety
functions in automatic transmissions
Important: The
following tests must be performed after the replacement of
electrical or mechanical components of the selector lever to ensure
the proper functioning of all selector lever safety features.
The safety functions are tested in the "0" (ignition "OFF"), "1"
(ignition "OFF", steering wheel lock unlocked), "2" (ignition "ON")
and "3" (start engine) positions of the ignition lock.
Ignition key in position

Check
|
"0" and "1"
|
The selector lever is locked in position "P" and cannot be
released even after actuating the brake.
If the engine is turned off in any selector
position other than "P", the selector lever lock solenoid switch
must engage when the lever selector is put in position "P" and the
selector lever must then be locked.
|
"0"
|
This is the only position in which the ignition key can be
removed when the selector lever is in position "P".
|
"2"
|
Actuation of the brake releases the selector lever and it can be
moved out of position "P".
If the selector lever is not in position "P",
the ignition key cannot be put in position "0" and removed. The
ignition key can only be turned back as far as position "1".
In any selector lever position other than "P",
the selector lever lock solenoid switch must not disengage when the
brake is actuated.
|
"3"
|
The engine can only be started when the selector lever is in
position "P" or "N".
