Alternator and Starter Cable Replacement - 1.7L Diesel LPL and
LPV
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Unlock the retaining tab (1) on the battery fuse
box cover.
- Use a suitable screwdriver (2) to unlock the
clip (4) through the window (3).
Note: Pull the battery fuse box
housing. DO NOT pull the flap.
- Open the battery fuse box cover (1).
- Remove the battery ground cable nut (1).
- Remove the battery wiring harness ground
cable (2) and the battery negative cable (3).
- Remove the battery tray. Refer to
Battery Tray Replacement .
- Remove the front compartment fuse block. Refer to
Front Compartment Fuse Block Replacement .
- Remove the wiring harness ground cable nut (2)
and remove the wiring harness ground cable (3).
- Remove the wiring harness plug (1) in top
direction from the front compartment fuse block housing.
- Disconnect the wiring harness connection adaptor
plug (4).
- Unclip the 2 alternator and starter ground cable
clips from the front compartment fuse block housing.
- Unclip the 4 alternator and starter cable
clips (1) from the transmission.
- Unclip the alternator and starter cable clip from the
drivetrain and front suspension frame front inner support.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the front compartment insulator. Refer to
Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
- Remove the alternator and starter positive cable
nut (4) and the alternator and starter positive
cable (3).
- Remove the starter positive cable bolt (1) and
the starter positive cable (2).
- Remove the starter ground cable nut (5) and the
starter ground cable (6).
- Unclip the alternator and starter positive cable from
the engine wiring harness bracket.
- Remove the alternator positive cable
nut (2).
- Remove the alternator and starter cable (1) from
the alternator and unclip the alternator and starter cable from the
sump bracket. Hang the alternator and starter cable aside.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the alternator and starter cable from the
vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Position the alternator and starter cable to the
vehicle.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Clip the alternator and starter cable to the sump
bracket and position the alternator and starter cable to the
alternator.
Caution: Refer to
Fastener Caution in the Preface
section.
- Install the alternator positive cable nut (2) and
tighten to
13 N·m (115 lb in)
.
- Clip the alternator and starter positive cable to the
engine wiring harness bracket.
- Install the starter ground cable (6) and the
starter ground cable nut (5) and tighten to
13 N·m (115 lb in)
.
- Install the wiring harness starter positive
cable (2) and the wiring harness starter positive cable
bolt (1) and tighten to
2 N·m (18 lb in) .
- Install the alternator and starter positive
cable (3) and the alternator and starter positive cable
nut (4) and tighten to
13 N·m (115 lb in)
.
- Install the front compartment insulator. Refer to
Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Clip in the alternator and starter cable clip to the
drivetrain and front suspension frame front inner support.
- Clip in the 4 alternator and starter cable
clips (1) to the transmission.
- Connect the wiring harness connection adaptor
plug (4).
- Install the wiring harness plug (1) to the front
compartment fuse block housing.
- Install the wiring harness ground cable (3) and
the wiring harness ground cable nut (2) and tighten to
9 N·m (80 lb in) .
- Clip in the 2 alternator and starter ground cable
clips to the front compartment fuse block housing.
- Install the front compartment fuse block. Refer to
Front Compartment Fuse Block Replacement .
- Install the battery tray. Refer to
Battery Tray Replacement .
- Install the battery negative cable (3) and the
battery wiring harness ground cable (2).
- Install the battery ground cable nut (1) and
tighten to
9 N·m (80 lb in) .
- Close the battery fuse box cover and lock the
retaining tabs (1) and (4).
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
