Engine Control Module Wiring Harness Replacement (1.4L LUJ)

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

2. Disconnect the 3 engine control module wiring harness plugs (3) from the engine control module (4).
3. Unclip the 3 wiring harness clips (1, 2) from the engine control module wiring harness brackets.
4. Remove the engine control module bracket along with the engine control module in top direction from the battery tray.
5. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .

6. Remove the windshield washer solvent container filler tube (1).
7. Remove the front compartment fuse block. Refer to Front Compartment Fuse Block Replacement .

8. Remove the wiring harness ground cable nut (2) and remove the wiring harness ground cable (3).
9. Remove the wiring harness plug (1) in top direction.
10. Disconnect the wiring harness connection adapter plug (4).
11. Unclip the wiring harness clip from the drivetrain and front suspension frame front inner support.

12. Unclip the wiring harness clip (2) from the transmission bracket.
13. Disconnect the backup lamp switch wiring harness plug (3) and the engine oil pressure indicator switch (1).

14. Disconnect the throttle body wiring harness plug (3) and the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring harness plug (4).
15. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor wiring harness plug (5) and the turbocharger pressure sensor wiring harness plug (6).
16. Disconnect the ignition coil module wiring harness plug (1).
17. Remove the ground cable bolt (2) and the ground cable from the cylinder head.

18. Unclip the engine emblem (1) from the camshaft cover.

19. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid valve wiring harness plug (3).

Note:  Make note of the installed position of the manifold absolute pressure sensor wiring harness plugs to ensure they will be connected in their original position.
20. Disconnect the 2 manifold absolute pressure sensor wiring harness plugs (1) and (2).
21. Disconnect the 4 fuel injector wiring harness plugs (4).
22. Unclip the engine control module wiring harness from the camshaft cover.
23. Disconnect the mass air flow sensor wiring harness plug.

24. Disconnect the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve wiring harness plug (3).
25. Unclip the engine control module wiring harness from the 2 intake manifold retainer clips (2) and from the 2 fuel injection rail retainer clips (1).

26. Disconnect the intake camshaft position sensor wiring harness plug (7).
27. Disconnect the intake camshaft position actuator solenoid valve wiring harness plug (6).
28. Disconnect the exhaust camshaft position sensor wiring harness plug (4).
29. Disconnect the exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid valve wiring harness plug (5).
30. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring harness plug (3).
31. Unclip the engine control module wiring harness (1) in top direction from the camshaft cover.
32. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

33. Unclip the 2 wiring harness clips (1) from the brackets.
34. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor wiring harness plug (3) and the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve (2).

35. Unclip the engine control module wiring harness from the 2 retainer clips (2).

36. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor wiring harness plug (3).
37. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wiring harness plug (5) and unclip the wiring harness clip (4) from the wiring harness bracket.
38. Disconnect the generator wiring harness plug (2).
39. Disconnect the knock sensor wiring harness plug (1).
40. Remove the starter wiring harness nut (6) and the starter wiring harness cable (7).
41. Lower the vehicle.
42. Remove the engine wiring harness from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Position the engine wiring harness to the vehicle.
2. Raise the vehicle.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .

3. Install the starter wiring harness cable (7) and the starter wiring harness cable nut (6) and hand tighten.
4. Connect the knock sensor wiring harness plug (1).
5. Connect the generator wiring harness plug (2).
6. Connect the crankshaft position sensor wiring harness plug (5) and clip in the wiring harness clip (4) to the wiring harness bracket.
7. Connect the heated oxygen sensor wiring harness plug (3).

8. Clip in the engine control module wiring harness to the 2 retainer clips (2).

9. Connect the air conditioning compressor wiring harness plug (3) and the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve (2).
10. Clip in the 2 wiring harness clips (1) to the brackets.
11. Lower the vehicle.

12. Clip in the engine control module wiring harness (1) to the camshaft cover.
13. Connect the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring harness plug (3).
14. Connect the exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid valve wiring harness plug (5).
15. Connect the exhaust camshaft position sensor wiring harness plug (4).
16. Connect the intake camshaft position actuator solenoid valve wiring harness plug (6).
17. Connect the intake camshaft position sensor wiring harness plug (7).

18. Clip in the engine control module wiring harness to the 2 intake manifold retainer clips (2) and to the 2 fuel injection rail retainer clips (1).
19. Connect the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve wiring harness plug (3).

20. Clip in the engine control module wiring harness to the camshaft cover.
21. Connect the 4 fuel injector wiring harness plugs (4).
22. Connect the 2 manifold absolute pressure sensor wiring harness plugs (1) and (2).
23. Connect the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid valve wiring harness plug (3).
24. Connect the mass air flow sensor wiring harness plug.

25. Clip in the engine emblem (1) to the camshaft cover.

26. Install the ground cable and the ground cable bolt (2) to the cylinder head and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft) .
27. Connect the ignition coil module wiring harness plug (1).
28. Connect the heated oxygen sensor wiring harness plug (5) and the turbocharger pressure sensor wiring harness plug (6).
29. Connect the throttle body wiring harness plug (3) and the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring harness plug (4).

30. Connect the backup lamp switch wiring harness plug (3) and the engine oil pressure indicator switch (1).
31. Clip in the wiring harness clip (2) to the transmission bracket.

32. Clip in the wiring harness clip to the drivetrain and front suspension frame front inner support.
33. Connect the wiring harness connection adapter plug (4).
34. Install the wiring harness plug (1).
35. Install the wiring harness ground cable (3) and install the wiring harness ground cable nut (2).
36. Install the front compartment fuse block. Refer to Front Compartment Fuse Block Replacement .

37. Install the windshield washer solvent container filler tube (1).
38. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .
39. Install the engine control module bracket along with the engine control module to the battery tray.

40. Connect the 3 engine control module wiring harness plugs (3) to the engine control module (4).
41. Clip in the 3 wiring harness clips (1, 2) to the engine control module wiring harness brackets.
42. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
