Airbag Unit - Driver's Side, Remove and Install
Remove, Disconnect Disconnect battery ground lead and mask negative terminal.
Important! Before commencing operations on the airbag, wait one minute until the capacitor has been discharged!

Unscrew fastening bolts for instrument housing cover. Remove steering column cover - unscrew bolts (1, 2) from upper and lower panelling. Illustration shows panelling with steering wheel removed for clearer representation. |

Remove, Disconnect Position steering wheel in the "straight ahead" position, turn 90 ° to the right. Unscrew the bolt (1), Torx TX 30 on the airbag unit from the reverse side of the steering wheel. Turn steering wheel back by 180 ° and remove second bolt (2) from reverse of steering wheel. Position steering wheel back in "straight ahead" position and carefully raise airbag unit. |

Disconnect wiring harness plug from inflator. Remove airbag unit.
Important! The airbag unit must not be opened by force and must always be stored with the padded side on top. |

Install, Connect Connect wiring harness plug to inflator. Bolt airbag unit to steering wheel.
Tighten (Torque) Airbag unit to steering wheel - 10 Nm / 7 lbf. ft.
Install, Connect Fasten bolts for instrument housing cover. Install signal switch panelling and connect battery ground cable.
Important! Newly installed airbag units must be registered. Registration of airbag unit and control units in conjunction with the Vehicle Ident. No. is necessary to ensure that it can always be established which airbag unit and control unit are installed in which vehicle. Each new airbag unit and each control unit is accompanied by a registration card on consignment. These registration cards must be filled out by the dealer as soon as they are received or as soon as the airbag is installed in the vehicle. |
