Coolant Thermostat, Remove and Install
 Remove, Disconnect Remove air cleaner housing and air intake hose. Release and remove toothed belt - see operation "Toothed Belt, Remove and Install". Remove camshaft housing cover. Unbolt camshaft pulley - for this, counterhold camshaft at special lug between 1st and 2nd cylinders. Unscrew upper fastening bolts of rear toothed belt cover and carefully swing toothed belt cover aside. |

Depressurise cooling system by opening of closure cap on coolant compensation tank. Drain coolant. For this, disconnect lower coolant hose and collect escaping coolant. Disconnect coolant hose from thermostat housing. Unbolt thermostat housing from cylinder head (arrows) and remove coolant thermostat.
 Clean Clean sealing surfaces. |

 Install, Connect Insert thermostat with new gasket in cylinder head. Note recesses (see illus.). Connect thermostat housing to cylinder head. Connect coolant hoses to thermostat housing and to radiator.
 Tighten (Torque) Thermostat housing to cylinder head - 10 Nm / 7 lbf. ft. |

Install, Connect Install rear toothed belt cover on camshaft housing (arrows).
Tighten (Torque) Rear toothed belt cover to camshaft housing - 6 Nm / 4 lbf. ft. |

Install, Connect Bolt on camshaft pulley - 45 Nm / 33 lbf. ft. For this, counterhold camshaft at special lug between 1st and 2nd cylinders.
Install, Connect Install camshaft housing cover with new gasket. Tighten bolts in a spiral pattern from inside outwards. |

Install toothed belt and adjust timing - see operation "Timing, Check and Adjust". Install air cleaner housing and air intake hose. Top up and bleed cooling system - see corresponding operation. Ensure that anti-freeze is adequate down to -30 ° C / -22 ° F. |
