Checking and Adjustment Operations

Lower and Upper Idle Speed, Check and Adjust

Object Number: 616196 Size: DEFAULT  Inspect

The rpm of the engine is measured at the pulley with the engine at operating temperature using an rpm gauge that is based on a photocell. A 1 to 2 cm wide aluminium film must be applied to the front collar of the crankshaft pulley (arrow, see illus. I). Start engine and measure lower and upper idle speed with rpm gauge.

Lower idle speed should be 830 - 930 rpm.

Object Number: 616198 Size: DEFAULT  Adjust

If this nominal value is not attained, adjust lower idle speed as follows: Loosen lock nut and turn stop bolt (arrow, see illus. II) of engine speed adjustment lever until nominal value is attained.

After adjustment, tighten lock nut.

Upper idle speed (maximum engine speed without load):

15 D

5600 to 5800 rpm

15 DT/X 15 DT

5400 to 5600 rpm

17 D/X 17 D

5100 to 5300 rpm

Object Number: 616198 Size: DEFAULT  Adjust

If nominal value is not attained, adjust upper idle speed as follows: Remove lead seal (2), loosen lock nut (1) and turn stop bolt of engine speed adjustment lever until nominal value is attained.

Object Number: 616201 Size: DEFAULT  Important!

To prevent damage to engine, do not adjust the upper engine speed too high.

Object Number: 616192 Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect
