Exhaust Manifold, Remove and Install (X 14 XE, C 14 SEL, X 16 XE, C 16 SEL)
 Remove, Disconnect Remove fan motor together with fan shroud - see operation "Fan Motor, Remove and Install". For version with secondary air system: pull off secondary air pump hose from combination valve (2) and vacuum hose (1) from combination valve. Remove secondary air metal pipe support from secondary air metal pipe and exhaust manifold (3). |

Unscrew fastening bolts for heat shield (arrows) and remove heat shield. |

Remove, Disconnect For version with secondary air system: remove secondary air metal pipe from exhaust manifold (arrows, see illus.) and remove together with combination valve. Disconnect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensor at front transmission bracket. Remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold and set aside. |

Remove exhaust manifold from cylinder head (arrows).
 Clean Remove used gaskets and clean sealing surfaces.
 Install, Connect Install exhaust manifold with new gasket. |

Install, Connect Fit front exhaust pipe and secondary air metal pipe together with combination valve and using new gaskets to exhaust manifold. Secure heat shield to exhaust manifold (arrows, see illus. I).
 Tighten (Torque)

- 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. |

Secondary air metal pipe to exhaust manifold (M8 bolt) |

Secondary air metal pipe to exhaust manifold (M6 bolt) |
- 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. 2) |
|
Heat shield to exhaust manifold |
- 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. |
1) Use new fastening nut(s). 2) Insert fastening bolts with assembly paste (white).
Install, Connect Fit secondary air metal pipe support to secondary air metal pipe and to exhaust manifold (3) - 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. 1) . Connect hose for secondary air pump on combination valve (2) and vacuum hose (1) to combination valve. Install fan motor together with fan shroud - see operation "Fan Motor, Remove and Install". |
