Toothed Belt, Remove and Install  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove air cleaner housing - see illustration "Air Ducts (X 14 XE, C 14 SEL, X 16 XE, C 16 SEL)" or "Air Ducts (C 16 XE)".  

Remove upper part of toothed belt cover - see operation "Toothed Belt Cover - Upper Part, Remove and Install".  

For version without AC: remove ribbed V-belt - see operation "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install (Vehicles without Power Steering and AC)" or "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install (Vehicles with Power Steering)".  

For version with AC: detach ribbed V-belt from alternator pulley and set aside (do not remove) - see operation "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install (Vehicles with Power Steering and AC)".  

Remove toothed belt cover - lower part - see operation "Toothed Belt Cover - Lower Part, Remove and Install".  

  Install, Connect   

Screw fastening bolt for increment disc and toothed belt drive gear hand-tight into crankshaft.     Remove, Disconnect    Detach camshaft sensor (1) from cylinder head and place to one side.

  Install, Connect   

Turn crankshaft in engine rotation direction to "1st Cylinder TDC" (III). Marks on the camshaft pulleys must face one another and align with the upper edge of the cylinder head (I).   Lock camshaft pulleys with KM-852 (II).     Remove, Disconnect    Release fastening bolt for toothed belt tension roller (IV) and turn adjusting eccentric in direction of arrow (clockwise) until pointer (1) is located just before left stop.   Mark running direction of the toothed belt for identification and remove toothed belt.

  Important!   

Note direction of travel of the toothed belt and timing marks.   Position toothed belt - ensure that tension side (I) is taut.     Adjust    Adjust toothed belt tension - see operation "Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust".     Install, Connect    Attach camshaft sensor to cylinder head - insert bolts with screw locking compound (red) - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.   Install toothed belt cover - lower part - see operation "Toothed Belt Cover - Lower Part, Remove and Install".   Install ribbed V-belt - see operation "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install (Vehicles without Power Steering and AC)" or "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install (Vehicles with Power Steering)" or "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install (Vehicles with Power Steering and AC)".

  Install, Connect   

Install upper part of toothed belt cover - see operation "Toothed Belt Cover - Upper Part, Remove and Install".  

Install air cleaner housing - see illustration "Air Ducts (X 14 XE, C 14 SEL, X 16 XE, C 16 SEL)" or "Air Ducts (C 16 XE)".  

Notice: 

Document the replacement of the toothed belt on the sticker provided.
