Alternator, Assemble (Delco-Remy)  

  Assemble   

Lubricate ball bearing with lubricating grease (brown). Press bearing into housing front part to the stop with KM-150-3 (see illus. I).   Secure ball bearing in housing with washers and bolts.   Press needle bearing in rear part of housing up to edge of installer drift using KM-151-2 (see illus. II).   Lubricate bearing with lubricating grease (brown).   Lock carbon brushes in carbon brush holder with securing wire (see illus. III). Install diode bridge with connection pin, regulator, brush holder and excitation diodes in rear part of housing.     Important!    Ensure that insulating washers are correctly arranged. Only remove locking pin for carbon brushes from carbon brush holder after the housing halves have been joined together.

  Assemble   

Connect cables to alternator. Fasten stator winding ends to diode bridge (1, see illus. I). Place stator on rear part of housing.     Important!    Note position of parts relative to one another. Marks made on disassembly must align.     Assemble    Insert armature in front part of housing. Join pre-assembled housing halves and bolt together with through bolts (2, see illus. II) - 4 - 6 Nm / 3 - 4 lbf. ft.   Remove securing wire from carbon brushes.   Install spacer ring, fan, pulley, split washer and nut and bolt to armature shaft - 80 Nm / 59 lbf. ft. (see illus. III).   After assembling alternator, check alternator output and voltage.   See operation "Alternator Output and Alternator Voltage, Check".
