Compact Alternator, Remove and Install
Remove, Disconnect Remove ribbed V-belt - see operation "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install". Unscrew alternator from alternator shackle (arrow, see illus.). Remove front wheel, mark position relative to wheel hub. Remove split pin from castellated nut and unscrew from the axle shaft. When releasing, counterhold with KM-468-B bolted at the wheel hub. |

Unscrew clamp bolt for guide joint (arrow, see illus.) from steering knuckle and pull guide joints out of steering knuckle. Pull axle shaft by hand out of front wheel hub or press out of front wheel hub with hub remover (commercially available). |

Remove, Disconnect Unbolt inductive pulse pick-up from bracket on oil pump housing (arrow, see illus.) and lay aside. Disconnect wiring harness plug from oil pressure switch. |

Unscrew connecting cables B + and D + /61 (1) from alternator. |

Remove, Disconnect Unscrew alternator from alternator bracket (1) and alternator bracket from engine. Remove alternator to the right, through wheel housing, from engine compartment.
Install, Connect Screw alternator at installation location to bracket for alternator (1). Screw bracket for alternator (1) to engine.

II Alternator fastening for vehicles with power steering and/or AC.

Install, Connect Fasten alternator shackle to alternator (arrow). Tighten all bolts.
Tighten (Torque)

- 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. |
Install, Connect |

Connect electric connection lead to alternator (1, see illus.). Connect wiring harness plug to oil pressure switch. Bolt inductive pulse pick-up to inductive pulse pick-up bracket.
Tighten (Torque) Inductive pulse pick-up to inductive pulse pick-up bracket - 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. |

Install, Connect Insert axle shaft into front wheel hub. Together with new castellated nut and washer, pull loosely into wheel hub (do not tighten yet). Insert guide joint into steering knuckle (arrow). Bolt on tight with new self-locking nut - tightening torque 30 Nm / 22 lbf. ft.
Torque - Angle Method Pretension axle shaft at front wheel hub to 130 Nm / 96 lbf. ft., then release castellated nut again - use KM-468-B (1) and then turn by a further 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. + 90 ° . When moving split pin hole and castellated nut, release up to following split pin hole and secure with split pin.
Install, Connect Attach wheel - tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft. - alternating crosswise. Position ribbed V-belt - see operation "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install". Connect ground cable to battery. |
