General Instructions/Safety Measures

 

Data readout with TECH 1 takes place with IGNITION ON or with engine running.

 

To erase trouble code:

With TECH 1:          press key F4

Without TECH 1:     The trouble codes stored in the control unit can be erased by disconnecting the vehicle voltage supply for more than one minute.

The trouble code can also be erased by switching the ignition "ON" and "OFF" 16 times.

 

Caution: After disconnecting the battery,

clock

board computer

electronic window winders

radio stations (coding)

must be reprogrammed if necessary.

 

C 14 NZ up to Feb. '91            When TECH 1 is connected to the ALDL plug, the engine telltale in the vehicle always lights up, even if no trouble codes are stored.

 

C 12 NZ and                             On these vehicles, the telltale remains off even after

C 14 NZ as of Feb. '91             connection of TECH 1.

 

Safety Measures:

 

· Never remove or connect the MULTEC CONTROL UNIT wiring harness plug with ignition switched on.

 

· Disconnect battery from vehicle electrical system before charging or quick-charging.

 

· Never use the quick-charger for starting.

 

· Caution when touching voltage-bearing parts of the ignition system.

 

· For removal or installation operations on the engine/transmission, always ensure that the ground connections from the engine/transmission to the battery are restored.

Poor or missing ground connections can lead to destruction of the control unit.

 

· During welding operations, control units must be removed.

 

· At temperatures above + 80 °C / 176 °F (drying oven), control units must be removed.
