Checking

Features Specific to this System

Diagnosis should be performed in the following order. Deviations from this sequence can lead to incorrect diagnosis or to loss of important diagnosis data.

·   Vehicle:

-    Vehicle at a standstill on level ground

-    Engage parking brake

-    Selector lever in P

·   Automatic transmission system:

-    Ensure that the automatic transmission system is functioning correctly (see corresponding Checking Procedures)

·   Visual check (inspection):

Note for points 1 to 5:

The wiring harness plugs for the engine control unit and battery must not be disconnected at this point, as this would lead to loss of the trouble codes stored in the engine control unit.

1   Check battery condition

2   Check all fuses

3   Check all plug connections and plugs of the Multec-M system (see also illustration in section 3.1)

4   Check wiring harness of engine control unit system for damage

5   Check ground connection of engine control unit

6   Check engine for leaks

7   Check intake manifold pressure sensor hose and vacuum lines to and from controlled canister purge valve for leaks

·  Engine telltale:

-    Ignition OFF

-    When ignition ON, observe engine telltale

The telltale must illuminate for 2 to 4 s and then extinguish or flash

Note: If the telltale illuminates constantly or does not illuminate at all, see Table 1.

·   Mode F6:ADJUSTMENTS (14 SE only)

In the 14 SE engine, the idle CO content can be adjusted using TECH 1.

A CO gauge is required for this. The CO content can be increased or decreased by pressing the arrow keys on TECH 1. After adjustment is completed, the last setting is stored.
