IDLE AIR CONTROL

Engine running at idle speed, operating temperature

 

If a certain regulating range of the idle speed adjuster is exceeded with the engine at operating temperature at idle speed, the control unit automatically resets the stepper motor at an engine speed higher than 3000 rpm.

·   Slowly increase engine speed to 4000 rpm, maintain briefly and allow to decrease to idle speed again.

·   Wait approx. 5 sec.

 

 

 

·   TECH 1 data list no. 34

     ENGINE SPEED

 

820 to 980 rpm

 

·   Check according to data list no.05 TPS SIGNAL

 

·   Select TECH 1 menu:

     F8:ECU CONTROL,

  RPM CONTROL

·   Using arrow keys, increase idle speed (1500 rpm) and decrease (900 rpm)

 

Engine speed increases and decreases according to TECH 1 selection.

·   Engine takes in dead air.

·   Throttle valve gap too large or too small (alter basic setting in emergencies only, see Service Instructions).

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug:

     X10 plug, engine & injectors

·   Ignition ON

·   Select TECH 1 menu:

     F5:ACTUATOR TEST

  IDLE AIR CONTR

·   Actuator test:

     Using multimeter, measure alternating voltage (AC ~)

     Corsa-B, Tigra:

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 14 (control unit side)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 18 (control unit side)

and

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 19 (control unit side

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 20 (control unit side)

 

higher than 11 V (AC ~)

·   Short circuit to voltage or short circuit to ground/circuit interruption

     Corsa-B, Tigra:

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 14 and 18 (control unit side)

to:           K57 wiring harness plug for engine control unit Ter. A4 and A3

or

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 19 and 20 (control unit side)

to:           K57 wiring harness plug for engine control unit Ter. A2 and A1

     Astra- F:

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 9 (control unit side)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 10 (control unit side)

and

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 11 (control unit side)

·   K57 engine control unit defective.

 

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 14 and 18 (component side) (Corsa-B, Tigra)

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 9 and 10 (component side) (Astra-F)

to:           ground

lower than 0.1 V

 

·   Short circuit to voltage

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 14 (component side) (Corsa-B, Tigra)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 18 (component side) (Corsa-B, Tigra)

or

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 9 (component side) (Astra-F)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 10 (component side) (Astra-F)

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 14 and 18 (component side) (Corsa-B, Tigra)

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 9 and 10 (component side) (Astra-F)

to:           ground

higher than 100 kW (¥)

·   Short circuit to ground

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 14 (component side) (Corsa-B, Tigra)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 18 (component side) (Corsa-B, Tigra)

or

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 9 (component side) (Astra-F)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 10 (component side) (Astra-F)

 

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

     Corsa-B, Tigra:

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 14 (component side)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 18 (component side)

and

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 20 (component side)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 19 (component side)

 

45 W to 70 W

·   Circuit interruption between measuring points

 

·   M66 idle speed stepper motor defective

     Astra- F:

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 9 (component side)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 10 (component side)

and

from:       X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 11 (component side)

to:           X10 plug, engine & injectors Ter. 12 (component side)

 

 

 

·   Further causes

 

·   Loose contact in P34 throttle valve potentiometer

·   Throttle valve shaft worn out

·   Throttle valve gap too large of too small, (alter basic setting in emergencies only, see Service Instructions).

·   Engine takes in dead air.

·   Seat of M66 idle speed stepper motor dirty.

·   Fault in tank vent system

·   Spark plugs defective

·   Mixture too lean or too rich.

·   Battery voltage too high / low

·   Odometer frequency sensor / instrument defective or circuit defective.
