Throttle Body, Remove and Install (X 14 XE, C 14 SEL, X 16 XE, C 16 SEL)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Disconnect ground cable from battery. Release pressure in cooling system by opening closure cap on coolant compensation tank. Detach coolant hoses from coolant compensation tank and remove coolant compensation tank. Collect escaping coolant.   Remove engine vent hose (1) and brake servo vacuum hose (2) from upper part of intake manifold.   Remove tank vent valve upwards from bracket and lay aside. Detach vacuum hose for intake manifold pressure sensor (3) and connection hose of tank vent valve (4) from upper part of intake manifold.   Detach upper hose clamp of connection hose to throttle body (5). Unbolt upper part of intake manifold from lower part of intake manifold and from cylinder head cover (arrows, see illus. III) and remove.     Clean    Remove old gaskets and clean sealing surfaces.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Unbolt wiring trough (1) and ground cable (2) from throttle body. Detach Bowden cable from throttle body and lay aside. Detach connection hose from throttle body.     Remove, Disconnect    Loosen hose clamp and remove air intake pipe downwards from throttle body. Unscrew fastening bolts for throttle body from throttle body retaining flange (3). Detach wiring harness plugs for throttle valve potentiometer and idle speed stepper motor.   Mark coolant hoses (4, 5) on throttle body and detach. Remove throttle body. Remove old gasket and gasket residue.     Install, Connect    Attach coolant hoses to throttle body and connect wiring harness plugs for throttle valve potentiometer and idle speed stepper motor. Attach throttle body to retaining flange with new gasket (3) - 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.

  Install, Connect   

Attach air intake pipe and connection hose to throttle body. Bolt on wiring trough and ground cable.   Attach Bowden cable (2, see illus. I) to throttle body. Attach upper part of intake manifold to lower part of intake manifold and to cylinder head cover with new gasket - 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.   Fasten hose clamps of rubber scoop between upper part of intake manifold and throttle body. Fasten all disconnected hoses and connection cables to upper part of intake manifold again.   Push tank vent valve from above into bracket (see illus. II) until lug engages.   Attach all disconnected coolant hoses to coolant compensation tank. Install coolant compensation tank. Connect ground cable to battery.   Top up and bleed cooling system - see corresponding operation. Ensure that anti-freeze is adequate down to -30 ° C / -22 ° F.
